2008 is just days away and I look around our home....The thought comes, "What if we choose to spend a year without purchasing anything from China. What impact could one family make? What impact would it make on us?".
What does it mean…a year without China? We have defined this as no purchasing of new items made in China.
Hopefully, the reality of the origins of raw materials and what it takes to bring them to market, as finished products in the United States of America is exposed.
We have always been “thoughtful” with our purchases, but what happens when they become directed by a mandate?

Oh, I hate to admit how daunting this task has been for me. No, not the avoidance away from items and products imported from China as one would suspect, but the keeping a post about the events and process. I was never one to keep a journal even when it was a requirement in school. I was always extremely creative in finding ways to approach and work around the dreaded task. Well, I suppose I have outed myself on this "short coming" and I now must move forward. Please forgive my neglect and any dangling participles! Oh, I just found the spell check....yea!!!!
I have made so many notes and saved receipts in hopes of being nudged into transcribing our discoveries (highs and lows) here. Now if only sense can be made from the pile. I think the first surprise was in our attempts to find light bulbs. I was surprised to read label after label only to find made in China on every one.
After doing some online research I found this, http://www.lightsofamerica.com/. This company makes the compact fluorescent, full spectrum light which is said to have a life of 10, 000 hours. Of course, disposal is whole another issue to consider. I hope to figure it all out in 10,000 hours or so.
